My New Year Netflix Binges

For some, the New Year is all about getting back into work and focusing on your goals. For me, the New Year is my busiest time at work and I find myself turning to Netflix for a bit of relaxation.

As an author, I tend to pull inspiration from everywhere, but binging TV shows can be dangerous for my creativity and work ethic too. To keep up my productivity in January, I’ve been doing a s-l-o-w hard copy proof/edit while making my way through these shows.

Stranger Things

Now, I’ll admit, I never watched the first two seasons because I’m not into sci-fi or scary genres. But, when my husband was binging season three of Stranger Things, I felt myself spending more and more time on the couch with him because I couldn’t stay away from it.

He offered to watch seasons one and two with me, but I declined. I really enjoyed the storyline but I was SO disappointed by some of the plot points in the last episode and when I Googled it, I found out that a lot of people were disappointed by the whole season! Do you feel the same about this?

If you haven’t jumped on the Bridgerton bandwagon, I envy your self control. Bridgerton wasn’t as binge-worthy as I expected. In fact, I polished off season three of Stranger Things in between episode six and seven of Bridgerton, but nevertheless it was good.

If I hadn’t done a Google-spoiler before the last few episodes, maybe I would have enjoyed it a little more. My Googling did find that the books were amazing and the Netflix series was so-so. Have you read the books? Tell me which is better.

Bling Empire

Can I just… Look, I had to. I was not disappointed. Bling Empire is amazing. If you loved the Crazy Rich Asians series and the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, you’ll be a fan of this reality show. I didn’t get through the whole season, but it’s nice to see how the other half lives now and then, isn’t it?

Cobra Kai

Well, hey there. Sure, I’d heard about the questionable acting, but I dived head first into Cobra Kai. You’re now looking at a super-fan. I think it’s hilarious. It’s funny and entertaining and perfect for when you totally want to unwind your brain from work.

It’s got everything: cringey teen romance, choreographed fight scenes, embarrassing dads. Honestly, it’s a winner. Hands up if you’re with me!

Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons

I wouldn’t be me if there wasn’t a documentary thrown in there. This is one of my favourite docos on Netflix because it’s a life like I’ve never seen before. It’s so interesting – and often sad – to see what life is like in each of these prisons and how prison itself can be so different depending on which country you are in.

I also really enjoy the way Raphael Rowe handles himself in these environments, how he takes many things into consideration and the way he expresses his observations.

Tell me your Netflix recs in the comments!
